Pub Table - Desk Top Quick Ideas and You Can Do It Yourself and Save

She had an old solid-wood table that she was no longer using. She asked me if I thought we could cut it down the middle and make a wall mount bar style table out of it. I said yes we can, and I will take the other half. We cut it in two, down the center lengthwise. We both were able to make a wall mounted Desk top/ Pub table out of it. My neighbor will mount hers at the tables original height and use the standard chairs she already has to sit at it.My husband had gotten a great deal on some tall, dark wood, pub chairs. So I added about 10 inches of length to the table legs by cutting a 4"x4" board down to the size needed to match the leg top. I then found a stain to match the chairs and stained the table and legs. This gave us the perfect little table, as well as some added interest to our very small dinning room. You can so easily do the same thing with an old table you have sitting around already, or one you purchase from a garage, estate sale or a second hand store. Measure to the center of the table and with a carpenters square make a straight line all the way down the middle of the table. It the table has leaves that you want to cut at the same time you will need to screw a board across the bottom of the table to told it together while sawing. Make sure to screw into each leaf. Also before staring to saw, check to see if there are any metal brackets or screws that might be in the way, and may cause the blade to jump or break. Remove all metal that is in line with the saw line. Then on top of the table place a piece of masking tape on either side of the marked line. This will help to keep the table top from splintering while cutting. Remove tape and lightly sand down edge after making cut.To mount the table to the wall, measure the height of the completed table from the floor to under the table top. Then measure from the floor up to that height on the wall and mark it with a pencil. Take a level and make a straight line about the length of the table top. Then mount a standard 2"x4" ( cut a few inches shorter then the length of the table top), onto the wall at the marked line. Use nice long wood screws and make sure to go into the wall studs. The studs are easily found with an inexpensive stud finder that you can find at your local hardware. It is a nice tool to have around.
